Reliability Coordinator
The reliability coordinator (RC) is the entity that has the highest level of authority in responsibility for the reliable operation of the bulk power system (BPS); has the wide area view of the BPS; and has the operating tools, processes, and procedures, including the authority to prevent or mitigate emergency operating situations in both next-day analysis and real-time operations. The RC has the purview that is broad enough to enable the calculation of interconnection reliability operating limits, which may be based on the operating parameters of transmission systems beyond any transmission operator’s vision.
In the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) region, the ERCOT independent system operator is the sole registered RC. In addition to RC, ERCOT ISO is registered as:
- Balancing Authority (BA)
- Interchange Authority (IA)
- Planning Authority (PA)
- Resource Planner (RP)
- Transmission Operator (TOP)
- Transmission Service Provider (TSP)
For more information about registration criteria, refer to NERC’s Statement of Compliance Registry Criteria, found on the Compliance Registry
page.
