Alton D. "Dee" Patton is professor emeritus of electrical engineering at Texas A&M University where he served for 35 years as a faculty member including four years as head of the Electrical Engineering Department. He also served as director of the Electric Power Institute (EPRI) within the electrical engineering department and as director of the Center for Space Power for the Texas Engineering Experiment Station. Prior to joining Texas A&M University, he was an engineer in the Electric Utility Engineering Department of Westinghouse Electric Corp.

He is currently president of Associated Power Analysts, Inc., a consulting firm that he co-founded in 1973 to provide electric power system analysis services with a specialty in electric power system and equipment reliability and failure analyses and forensic engineering. Associated Power Analysts has developed and supplied power system reliability software packages for utilities in the US and Canada and for EPRI.

Dr. Patton is a Life Fellow of IEEE, cited for his contributions to power system reliability analysis and assessment. In 2000 he received the IEEE Industry Application Society’s Richard Harold Kaufmann award for his contributions to power system reliability analysis and its application to industrial power facilities.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a master’s from the University of Pittsburgh, and a doctorate from Texas A&M University, all in electrical engineering. He is a registered professional engineer in Texas.
